The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation Canada (DRIFCan) mission is to directly fund cure based diabetes research.

Dr Shapiro has a world renowned research lab at the Alberta Diabetes Institute at the University of Alberta, which is best known for the Edmonton Protocol and Islet transplantation. He is now moving the research into a new direction of stem cell transplantation using one’s own cells.
