In partnership with ORT Edmonton Jews of Venezuela
May 22 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Venezuela was one of the few countries that welcomed Jewish migrants from Europe in the 1940s, but the history of Jews in Venezuela goes further back.
Magdalena and Vic have lived in several countries: Uruguay, Venezuela, Mexico and now they are newcomers in Canada. They are going to tell us the story of the Jews in Venezuela.
They will also tell us the story of their family as a case of the many Jewish migrants.
From a Venezuelan newspaper during 1940 about the Jewish migrants:
“The impression they give, when you see them for the first time, is extremely pleasant. Far from the image of the Jews as a crooked aspect and a petty nature, those in front of us point out for their joviality, their frank manners and their concepts of generosity… In short, they seem to us people of courageous spirit, of an intrinsic enthusiasm that does not decay into misfortune or exalt itself on the threshold of fortune.”
