Bees and Neighbours: A Talk on City Pollinators and Urban Prairies
June 19, 2024 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Jewish Senior Citizen’s Centre Presents
Bees and Neighbours
A Talk on City Pollinators and Urban Prairies
Join us for the delicious lunch and stay for the presentation by ecology writer Stephen Humphrey, author of Paths of Pollen.
He will present a talk, with pictures, about the diverse community of pollinators buzzing around cities and the plants they visit. He will discuss efforts by cities, conservationists and scientists to create “pollination corridors,” flower-filled expressways for urban pollinators. He will also talk about prairies, and attempts to restore and preserve these threatened habitats in Canadian cities.
Stephen Humphrey is a writer, radio contributor, and citizen naturalist. He has worked on audio documentaries for CBC Radio’s IDEAS, such as “Planet You,” about the human microbiome, “Generation Mars,” and “Dancing In The Dark: The Intelligence of Bees,” which was short-listed for the prestigious New York Festival Award. His five-line bee poems, accompanied by videos and photos, are part of the living art project, Resonating Bodies.
